DBMM Polybian Roman versus Han Chinese

Played another Dbmm using the Romans again against Stephens Han Chinese (sort of contemporary opponents) as he wanted to try them with a view to using in Celtic Cup in May. Terrain fell quite good for Romans again but had to deploy first. Both armies being regular had several turns of manoeuvres before clashing anywhere. Sadly for Rome my 'only throw ones' syndrome struck on initial shooting/combats and 7 (!!!!) elements of AxS and Ps succumbed. From then on it was usual game of catch-up but a large Roman command broke and then shattered leaving gaping hole that could never be filled and Han were victorious at little cost to themselves.

  1. Hi, Been following you blog for a while and always liek the battle reports, especially the Punic related ones. Always good to see the Polybians getting an outing. Have a couple of questions re you terrain.
What is the board? Game mat? What make?
What do you use for the rough ground areas? Home made? Bought?
    Thanks for all the AARs

  2. Hi Andy

The mat is 6' x 4' from Gamesworkshop and was £15 about 4 yrs ago pinned to a layer of several carpet tiles. The rough areas/hills etc are bought items from various sellers at Warfare last couple of years all around £4-5 each. Also included are some very useful bits of rough/rocky terrain about 2-3" diameter that one can place on other items.
Could all probably be made quite easily as DIY but am too lazy by far :-)

    Cheers

  3. Forget to add that the game mat in pics from mates house (see the latest WWII post) is a much pricer (£50 !) affair being a rubber backed and flocked item he ordered online. He uses similar/same rough types areas. We used to use different coloured felt with bits of lichen etc but find the bought stuff much prettier.

  4. Cheers for that. I keep looking at the GW mats and can't quite bring myself to buy one.. 'though it may just have to be the easy option as I can't seem to find the time to make tiles!

I've got plans for terrain 'areas' which I've tried in the past with MDF only to have it warp. I have another plan involving vinyl tiles and silicon baking sheets!

    Cheers

  5. The ones I have seem to have hardboard bases which I suspect would be rather hard to cut without some sort of powered saw ?

    Silicon baking sheets !!??

    :-)

  6. If it works it'll be on my blog soon! Currently cutting up vinyl tiles to make roads and rough ground. Need the weather to break so I can spray outside as it's killing me at the moment!
