More Combat Commander

Another couple of Combat Commander scenarios played.
First set near Aisne River in France 1940
Forgot how awful the French hand can be with single discard ability and they were duly trounced by well equipped Germans
Second scenario was set during Falaise Pocket with Germans trying to stream past some Polish troops during night hours.
This one was a nail biter and huge fun going to wire with Huns winning by a single Victory Point.
Super stuff as always with Combat Commander.

Age Of Reason: Russia versus Prussian in Seven Years War

Played a game with Stephen today using the venerable Age Of Reason rules.
We reckon we last used these in 1998 !!.
We used a points system we found on web with some SYW changes to Army Lists and found them to be a nice little change to the rather bland lists in original rules.
I rolled up the terrain map the previous evening and we then rolled for sides.
A great game it was too with the Prussians being less numerous using points but having several nice advantages.
Prussian foot can move half and shoot with -1 dice Russians can only move half and shoot.
And a biggie was Prussian mounted being allowed 2 charges before becoming blown (Disorganized in rules).
We had a large cavalry melee on one flank in which the Prussian horse were victorious allowing them to charge into a Russian Brigade holding a hill and turning whole Russian army (very SYW).
A few discussions (not unexpected) with charge distances and pre-charge moves but nothing we could not work out.
Well worth another outing these rules.

Combat Commander (and couple of new arrivals)

Managed three games of Combat Commander at my Dads last night.
We played two of the WBC 2014 Scenarios and a RBG game all Germans (Dad as ever) versus Russians.
First was a draw (first ever between us methinks) second Russian victory and third went to Germans.

As usual great stuff with a great game system.

These board wargames arrived in last week or so

New Wargames room and a Field Of Battle game in progress

With my son Steven now gone from house (ensconced in Nottingham for foreseeable future) I swapped rooms with him giving me a considerably bigger Wargaming room (yee hah !!!).
Much more room for all the pruck I have and continue to accumulate.
Main thing is the extra room around the table however allowing me to place a couple of PC chairs.
To celebrate after the travail that this move incurred I set up a Field Of Battle 2 game with my Napoleonic French and Prussians.

Field Of Glory: Napoleonic - 1813 Young Guard go at it with Russians again..............

Another game of FogN using my new Young Guard units (Autumn 1813 list this time essentially the same just Drilled rather than Conscript and no mounted Grenadiers A Cheval) against Stephens Russians (tweaked a bit from last time but still loads of Artillery pieces).
I got to attack this time allowing me to put pressure on Russian left (Defender cannot advance over center line for 2 turns).
But again the firepower of Ivans is pretty stiff to resist. I exchanged a round of firing with two of my Young Guard foot with a Large Ivan Regiment then charged both in.
But one got shot off by the target and supports and remaining unit suffered 4 hits whilst only inflicting 2 (8 Ivan dice vs 6 French with re-rolled 1s) and also was sent packing.
Another fun game and we learnt quite a few new rules in this game relating to use of Skirmishers main one being that if outside 2" of enemy they can move a half move in any direction making them pretty slippery customers.
We had bit of debate around Cover and Obstacles in relation to Enclosed (ie hedge lined) fields.
Some seeming contradictions in the (rather loose) definitions of these but we came to a mutual agreement how we would play.
We both like this 'Brigade' level of game.
